A packed tourist ferry has sunk off the Thai resort of Pattaya, killing at least six passengers including three foreigners.
A police spokesman said a further 15 people were seriously injured after an alleged mechanical failure near Koh Larn, a small island popular with daytrippers.
Dozens of ambulances were called to Pattaya beach to treat casualties pulled from the water.
Rescuers searched for survivors after the ferry sankTelevision footage showed stunned tourists being led to safety, as people waited on the shoreline for news about friends and family.
About 150 people are believed to have been on the double-decker ferry.
Local media said passengers rushed to one side of the boat following an engine failure, causing it to list.
Rescue workers brought casualties ashore on stretchersPattaya police chief Suwarn Chiewnawintawat said three Thai residents, one Chinese and two other foreigners were among the dead.
Some 22 million tourists visited Thailand last year.
Pattaya, around 100 miles from the capital Bangkok, is one of the country's most popular resorts.
Anxious onlookers waited on the shoreline for news of friends and familiesIt is a favoured destination for Russians and is renowned for its vibrant nightlife and cheap accommodation.
A Russian embassy official in Bangkok told the Ria Novosti news agency that at least half the passengers on the ferry were Russian tourists.
Three Russians, including a child, were taken to hospital in a serious condition, according to Russian news reports.
